What Good Is AI for Fundraisers? [VIDEO]

Quick! Is AI about to take all our jobs? Do everything we do now, but better and faster?

That’s what Sean Triner and I talked about.

Short answer:  No.

Used well, AI can save you time and money.

It’s great at taking notes, it can help you dig through a lot of data to find things. It can tackle repetitive tasks.

And it’s a mediocre copywriter.

Which is better than a terrible copywriter, and a lot better than not doing it at all because a human copywriter costs too much. In fundraising, it’s better to do something than to do nothing.

My colleague Sean and I had a great discussion about how AI is changing the game for nonprofit fundraising. I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical of AI at first. But I’ve seen firsthand how it’s already proving invaluable for my work.

So don’t be afraid. Keep your mind open. We’ll always need human beings who understand fundraising.

I asked AI to watch our video and write this summary for me. It gave me an accurate but lifeless version that scored at Flesch-Kincaid reading ease grade of 13. That’s not up to our Moceanic standards, so I told it to reduce the score to 6. It managed to get it down to 10. Still not good enough. That, along with the bland tone, caused me to give up on it for this task.
